What is a BER (Building Energy Rating)?
A BER is an indication of the energy performance of a building.
It covers energy use for space heating, water heating, ventilation and lighting calculated on the basis of standard occupancy.
A BER is similar to the energy label for a household electrical appliance like your fridge. The label has a scale of A-G. A-rated buildings are the most energy efficient and will tend to have the lowest energy bills.
Types of BER (Building Energy Rating):
Domestic: New and existing Dwellings.
E.g. Houses, Apartments, Flats.
Commercial: New and existing Commercial and Industrial buildings.

DEC: New and existing Public Buildings over 1,000m2.

All BER and DEC Certificates are issued by the SEAI, (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland).
