What is a DEC (Display Energy Certificate) used for?
A DEC is used to present the energy efficient credentials of a public building and to encourage public bodies to improve their carbon footprint.
Who requires a DEC (Display Energy Certificate)?
“From the 1st January 2009, public bodies occupying buildings over 1,000m2 are required to exhibit a DEC, in a prominent place, clearly visible to the public. The DEC is intended to encourage public authorities to adopt environmentally responsible and efficient use of energy in buildings.” Reference SEAI Website
How long does it take?
It really depends on the size of the quality of data available and the number of premises on the site. Once the assessment is complete the cert is usually sent out within one working week.
What does a DEC (Display Energy Certificate) Assessment entail?
A DEC assessment is based on the measured energy use of the building, from utility bills. This actual energy usage is then compared against a benchmark figure for the type of building.
